The Foton BJ6125U8BKB-3 is a proper 12-meter coach, built by Beiqi Foton and first rolled out around June 2013 (that's MIIT batch No. 249). Production wrapped up at the end of 2014, so it's a bit of a classic now. It measures 12 meters long, 2.55 meters wide, and stands either 3.86 or 3.78 meters tall depending on the A/C setup. So, let me tell you about the Foton BJ6125U8BKB-3. This big 12-meter coach was built by Beiqi Foton. It first popped up in China's MIIT announcements back in batches No. 231 and No. 249, and its final appearance was batch No. 264. After that, on December 31, 2014, it was officially put out to pasture. But what a machine it was!

Here's what you're looking at: 12 meters long, 2.55 meters wide, and standing either 3.86 or 3.78 meters tall – depends which A/C unit you slap on top. It's got a 6,000mm wheelbase, front overhang of 2,620mm, rear overhang of 3,380mm. GVWR is a solid 17.8 tonnes, and it weighs about 13.5 tonnes empty. Seats? You can fit anywhere from 24 to 55 people. Go with a single front door and you can squeeze in 55. Add a middle door and you're down to 53 – still plenty.

Under the hood – your choice of five beasts
All are China III diesels, so keep that in mind. You want the Shanghai Hino P11C-UJ? That's 254kW net. The Xi'an Cummins ISME360 30? 260kW net. Weichai offers two: WP10.336 gives you 242kW, and the WP10.375 cranks out 274kW. Or go with the Yuchai YC6L330-30, 233kW net. Rated power across the range is 243 to 276kW – plenty of grunt to get you up to the 100km/h top speed.
The chassis rides on air suspension (spring leaf count is -/-, meaning none – it's all air). Transmission is an S6-160, final drive ratio 3.545. Fuel economy? With the Yuchai engine, you're looking at 20.89L/100km – that's within the JT711 standard for commercial coach fuel consumption. Not bad for a big girl.

Doors, windows, and luggage space
Passenger doors are the pneumatic outward-swing type – nice and smooth. You can spec either a single front door or a front + middle door setup. If you close off the middle door, then all the emergency windows on both sides have to be the outward-opening type – that's the law. The side windows are single-glazed tempered glass, but you can order full push-pull or just partial push-pull windows if you want some fresh air.
The luggage compartment runs right through – it's a proper underfloor bay. To meet high grade bus standards, it's at least 5.5 cubic metres. Enough for a tour group's suitcases, no problem.

A/C, electrics, and little extras
Air conditioning is a roof mounted unit, and which one you pick changes the overall height – hence the two numbers earlier. Standard equipment includes a satellite positioning tachograph and ABS (that's WABCO China unit, model 446 004 320 0). And if you don't like the standard rearview mirrors or the standard look? No worries – the factory offered an alternative mirror design and even a different exterior styling package.

All in all, the BJ6125U8BKB-3 was a solid, no nonsense coach for long hauls and tour work. Shame it's gone, but you might still find one on the second hand market if you look hard enough.
